He was already late. Last Monday, I spilled coffee on my laptop. Two days later I forgot to turn off the copier at work and printed off two hundred copies of my resume. As if that many people could ever find me interesting. The next day I had to endure a conversation with my supervisor where he questioned my loyalty to the company. My ex-cuses were buckets of water trying to put out a forest fire.
Tuesday though, Tuesday was better. At my book club meeting that night Sarah said that she’s set me up with one of her brother’s friends. She didn’t tell me his name. Something along the lines of, “It’ll be more organic this way.” No, “It’ll be more uncomfortable this way.” Nevertheless, I marked a hopeful little mark on my calendar, and allowed myself a smile whenever I thought of the date to come.
Now, he was late.
So here's the deal. One of my friends, Kyle, has this young-er sister Sarah. And I know she's my friend's little sister, so totally off-limits (#brocode), but she's pretty darn attrac-tive. And just a year younger, so that's not a big deal, right? So when she asked if I would go on a blind date with her friend, I decided it was a risk I was willing to take. What's the worst that could happen? Sarah refused to tell me her name, or really anything about her. At all. A little suspicious, don't you think? Anyhow, Kyle was there too, and I wasn't about to chicken out in front of him, so I decided to go for it.
One thing you should know about me is that I'm never on time. Never. I honestly do try; I set my alarms, try to get people to remind me, but it never works. I just like to live in the moment... or at least that's how I try to explain it to the hordes of annoyed people who have to deal with my schedule. So of course, on the night of this date, I was late.
Stay tuned for the continued adventures of our heroes! Will he ever show up? Will she find 200 people happy to get a resume? Were they destined to be?? Find out next issue!
